Almost two weeks ago we became aware of severe flooding in the area of Suriname just above Brazil. This is the home of several Amerindian villages of the Wayana and Trio people.  The heavy rain and high water left these villages inaccessible by anything other than a bush plane. One of the needs mentioned was clean drinking water.
Knowing that we had 159 water filters on hand, we knew we had a means to help, if we could get these filters to the people.
We contacted Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) and made arrangements to go out with the filters, bibles and a message from God’s Holy Word.   We are very grateful for MAF and all the people who worked together with us to make this possible.  God is always using His people in many different ways to accomplish His work.

On our way to Apetina

The people were very welcoming and were excited to receive the water filters.  We carefully explained how to put it together and the process of cleaning it regularly to keep it working.

We had been in contact with an organization here in the city that we heard would provide aide to these villages. We had discussed their need for food as well as clean water and we had agreed that we would transport food that they would provide.  The food needed to be delivered to the MAF offices before our scheduled flight but it was never delivered.  We went with 3 small boxes of food donated by a local believer.  We knew that was not even enough to provide for one village but it was all we had to give.  It was difficult to watch as the people carefully determined who was in the most need and shared what little we brought with each other.

Food boxes

There were several packages of cookies. Enough for the children to line up to receive one cookie each.

Every child waited patiently in line

Because of the rain we were only able to spend a short time in two of the 8 villages but we have been receiving news that the other villages have already heard of our visit and are asking if we will come to them too.
What a big opportunity God has put in front of us to go and share the Good News of the love of Christ Jesus with all of the villages in the south, that are only accessible by plane. Though others have gone before us and there are believers among their people, very few go there to offer help and to encourage those who already know Jesus.  But we know that Jesus sees them, He knows right where they are. Maybe now is the time He is sending us to remind them of his goodness.
We pray that God will make that possible and we pray that food and clothing will be provided for the people as well.
We will do what God puts before us to do, in His name, for His Glory.
